U.S. citizen Gary Giordano has been held in Aruba since August 5, 2011. The government held him because they believed he had something to do with the disappearance of Robyn Gardner.

At a hearing on Friday November 25, 2011, the prosecution requested Giordano be held for 30 additional days. However, the request was denied due to a lack of progress in the investigation of the disappearance.

Giordano had given up hope in the Aruban criminal justice system and was surprised by their decision. His lawyer, Jose Baez, stated that they “are grateful the Aruban government has seen that no crime was committed.” It is assumed that Giordano will leave Aruba as soon as he is freed since the judge’s ruling does not require him to stay in Aruba.

This does not mean Gary Giordano is cleared for the disappearance of Robyn Gardner. Authorities are still investigating the case and can seek extradition if necessary. They continue to believe that he is lying about his story and the insurance filed days before their trip seems very suspicious.
