The FBI Tour
The J. Edgar Hoover Building, the FBI’s headquarters, is located 5 blocks from the Crime Museum. Unfortunately, the FBI no longer offers tours of the facility, but instead, you can tour DC’s #1 interactive museum. The Crime Museum consists spans 3 floors and covers the history of American crime and crime fighting.

FBI Mission
According to the FBI’s website, the FBI focuses on threats that challenge the foundations of American society or involve dangers too large or complex for any local or state authority to handle alone. In executing the following priorities, they produce and use intelligence to protect the nation from threats and to bring to justice those who violate the law.

  • Protect the United States against foreign intelligence operations and espionage
  • Protect the United States against cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes
  • Combat public corruption at all levels
  • Protect civil rights
  • Combat transnational/national criminal organizations and enterprises

  • Upgrade technology to successfully perform the FBI’s mission*

Forming Its Name

  • 1908 – Bureau of Investigation was formed in 1908
  • 1932 – renamed to “The United States Bureau of Investigation”
  • 1933 – renamed the “Division of Investigation” under the Bureau of Prohibition
  • 1935 – renamed to Federal Bureau of Investigation
