Federal Bureau of Prisons
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is an agency operating in the United States’ Department of Justice. The Bureau of Prisons, according to their website, was established in 1930 for “management and regulation of all Federal penal and correctional institutions.” The Bureau is also known as BOP.

The Bureau currently is in charge of over 200,000 inmates. The BOP claims a recidivism rate of only 20%, an excellent statistic showing the effectiveness of their prison system.

The BOP has many regional facilities around the United States, but is headquartered in its Central Office in Washington, DC.

On their website, the BOP states that their mission is “to protect society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens.”

More information on the Federal Bureau of Prisons is available at their website here.
