Nate Newton, a former Dallas Cowboys lineman, is not famous for his plays on the field. Instead, Newton is famous for his involvement with drug trafficking.
When asked what drove such a successful man to an illegal and unnecessary career, Newton noted, “I’ve always been competitive, I’ve always been in sports. I couldn’t see myself not being the biggest dope man.” Reportedly, Newton would make up to $75,000 per drug deal.
He was released in 2004 from a prison in Louisiana after he had been pulled over in 2001 with 213 pounds of marijuana in the car with them. Subsequently, a few months after the primary incident, when he was out on bail, he was pulled over again with 175 more pounds of marijuana.
Newton has let the press know that he is very sorry for his actions. He stated that in prison, he discovered his spirituality: “I got on my knees and said, ‘God, I want to make a deal. … You protect me in here, and when I come out, I’ll do everything I can to make it right.’”
